Synopsis
Eagles in the Blood is an action crime drama inspired by true stories, following four childhood friends—Victor, Alfred, Lony and Mark—whose lives take very different paths before bringing them together again in Albania. The four boys grow up together despite coming from very different family backgrounds. Victor is the son of a senior police officer and a doctor, Alfred's father is a mechanic, while Lony and Mark leave Albania with their families, eventually living in Italy and Germany. Years later, circumstances bring the four friends back together in Albania. Older and more ambitious, they decide to change their lives and make a pact: rich or dead—they have nothing to lose. Their ambition quickly turns into a life of organised crime. Robberies, weapons and murder lead them into an increasingly powerful criminal network. Victor's connection to his father and elements within the police gives the group access to information and protection, allowing their activities to grow while investigations are manipulated and evidence disappears. Their network eventually expands into international drug trafficking, involving contacts across several countries. As their wealth and influence grow, so does their relationship with corrupt elements within the police, political structures and the justice system. But the protection they once relied upon begins to disappear. Political pressure increases, investigations intensify and the authorities can no longer afford to protect the group. Meanwhile, Mark's relationship with his girlfriend begins to deteriorate. Once close to him, she becomes frightened as she discovers more about the criminal world surrounding him. Her eventual connection with an honest police officer sets in motion a chain of events that exposes the group's crimes. The four friends are eventually hunted by the authorities. Their final attempts to escape end in a series of violent confrontations, leaving the childhood friends dead and those closest to them devastated. Eagles in the Blood explores friendship, ambition, loyalty, corruption, betrayal and the devastating consequences of believing that money and power can place someone above the law.
Main Characters
VICTOR
The son of a senior police officer and a doctor, Victor grows up with connections and privileges that give him an advantage over his childhood friends. Intelligent and ambitious, he becomes one of the driving forces behind the group's criminal activities. His father's position within the police becomes an important source of protection for the group, but eventually even those connections cannot save him.
ALFRED
Alfred comes from a working-class family. His father is a mechanic and his mother is a school cleaner. Having known Victor, Lony and Mark since childhood, Alfred remains deeply loyal to his friends as they enter the criminal world. As the group's activities become increasingly violent, Alfred becomes one of its most dangerous members.
LONY
Lony leaves Albania with his parents and moves to Italy. After his parents' divorce and a difficult period in his life, he becomes connected to people involved in criminal activity before eventually returning to Albania. His experiences abroad and his connections become valuable to the group's expanding criminal network.
MARK
Mark moves to Germany with his parents but later returns to Albania with his sister following a tragic family accident. Reunited with his childhood friends, Mark becomes deeply involved in their growing criminal empire. His relationship with his girlfriend eventually becomes an important part of the events that lead to the group's downfall.
LEONY
Leony is a separate character from Lony. Through his connections in Italy, he becomes involved with the group's expanding network and helps connect them to international criminal contacts. His role becomes increasingly important as the group moves beyond robbery and into international drug trafficking.
Story Background
Inspired by true stories and real-life circumstances, Eagles in the Blood explores the relationship between organised crime, corruption and the pursuit of power. Set against the social and political changes that followed Albania's transition to democracy, the story follows four childhood friends whose ambition gradually leads them into a dangerous criminal world. The screenplay explores how organised crime can become connected to corrupt elements within institutions, including police, politics and the justice system. At its heart, however, the story is about people. It explores how friendship can become corrupted by money and power, how loyalty can turn into fear, and how decisions made in pursuit of wealth can ultimately destroy the lives of everyone involved.
Setting
Primary setting: Albania The story takes place during the period following Albania's transition to democracy and moves through various urban and rural environments, including homes, garages, clubs, businesses, police environments and locations connected to organised crime. The story also extends internationally through connections with Italy, Germany, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ecuador, reflecting the increasingly international nature of the group's criminal activities.
A Note from the Writer
Eagles in the Blood is a story that has stayed with me because it explores something I believe cinema has the power to reveal—the darker side of human nature and what can happen when ambition, friendship and the desire for a better life become corrupted by money and power. I wanted to tell a story about four people who begin with dreams and ambitions, but gradually become trapped in a world of crime, violence and corruption. Their journey shows how quickly choices can change a person's life, and how difficult it can become to escape once the line has been crossed. The story is inspired by true stories and real-life circumstances. Through the screenplay, I wanted to explore not only organised crime itself, but also the corruption and relationships between criminals, police, political interests and institutions that are supposed to protect society. I believe cinema should do more than entertain. It can make people question what they see around them, confront injustice and look at difficult subjects from a different perspective. My ambition with Eagles in the Blood is to create a powerful action film with emotional depth—a film that takes the audience through friendship, ambition, betrayal, violence and loss, while leaving them with something to think about after the story ends. This screenplay is one of the stories I most want to see brought to life.
